How to play
Seven steps, about six minutes, endless chaos.
Works fully offline
Once SketchShout™ is installed, everything runs on this device: the 1,300+ object library, Scrib's host voice, speech recognition and your game history. No internet, no accounts, no data ever leaves the device — put the tablet in airplane mode and the whole game still works.
- 1
Set up the room
One shared screen everyone can see, a numbered sheet and a pencil per player, and the microphone in the middle. An adult Game Master must supervise — always.
- 2
Pick a mode and a difficulty level
Every mode has four levels that change the tempo, how strictly Scrib scores answers and how many numbers get called. Chill is built for younger players.
- 3
Meet Scrib and register
Say “My name is [name], and I am ready to play SketchShout.” Scrib captures a first name and a temporary session voice profile — nothing is stored after the game.
- 4
Draw the objects
Each object is announced and flashed on screen for a few seconds. Draw it in the next numbered box. No words, letters or initials. No repeats, no going back, silence please.
- 5
Review your sheet
Pencils down. Study your sheet and lock in which object belongs to which number.
- 6
Take the challenge
Scrib calls a random number. Shout the object before the clock runs out. First correct answer takes the point; wrong answers don't stop the clock.
- 7
Crown the champion
Scrib reads the scores and names the winner. Ties go to sudden death, and the whole game is logged under its own session ID.
Difficulty levels
Each mode can be played at any of these four levels.
Chill
Ages 5+ with an adult
Generous timers, near-miss answers still count and a short challenge. Built for ages 5-7 playing with an adult.
Standard
Ages 8+
The mode exactly as designed: normal timers and the full set of numbers.
Sharp
Ages 10+
Timers trimmed by a quarter and answers must be much closer to the real name.
Expert
Ages 12+
Half-speed timers, exact names or approved synonyms only, and a longer sudden challenge.
Ages 5 and up, with an adult
Younger players are welcome on the Chill level, where drawing time is longer, scoring is generous and fewer numbers are called. An adult Game Master must be present to give microphone consent, help with names and settle any dispute.
Fair play
- • Only pre-approved synonyms count — Scrib never guesses if an answer is close.
- • Writing the object name can mean disqualification, but an adult must confirm it.
- • If two players answer at once, Scrib replays the number instead of guessing.
- • The Game Master can award, remove or reassign any point at any time.
